The door is on to check fit. It is slightly crooked in this pic but when the hinge pin is pushed all the way in, it is perfectly straight with an even gap all the way around.

I wanted to install the
transponder to check the stiffness of the panel. It is plenty strong

It's a little blurry, but here's a pic of the door with the pin all the way in. There will be a magnetic latch on the inside that keeps the door perfectly even with the front of the panel, but I won't install it until after the panel is painted. |

Since the door is aluminum, I bonded a small steel plate to the back of the door for the magnetic latch. I owe a lot of thanks to Steve Adamczak for using a $50,000 CNC machine to make a perfect door and for supplying the small steel plate. This glove box with a flush door and no visible rivets is going to be a really nice feature on this airplane! |
