Project Update: I've started spending some time in the garage trying to figure out the best way to build a paint booth. The fuselage is back on the gear since I will need to move it around as I clean up and prepare the paint booth.
Fuselage is back on the gear.
As you can see, there is not going to be a lot of room for a large paint booth.
This aluminum piece is the wheel pant mount. A word of caution-Rans indicates to 'press' this piece into the axle with a press. I was concerned about squeezing the aluminum into the axle so I took it to a machine shop and had it professionally done. They indicated that if I would have simply got a hydraulic press and pressed the aluminum into the axle, I would have probably cracked the axle.

They put the aluminum on a lathe and made made it fit just snug. As you can see, it does not have to be tight because the cotter pin also holds it in. Be aware that you will also have to drill a hole through the aluminum so the cotter pin can slide through.

So...if you're going to mount wheel pants, don't think you can simply press this piece into the axle. You will need to mount it in a lathe, and use sandpaper to take off a few thousands.

I also covered the right aileron today. The blue tape on the top is just a note reminding me to shrink it to 350 degrees before I add all the 2" tape. I had to order more of the pinked tape.
