Started something I've never done before-fiberglass work. I have to make fiberglass fairings to transition the wheelpant into the gear leg.

I wanted to start with something easy though. When the wheel pant halves are together, The two halves were not flush on the outside. The front half was not even with the aft half. To fix this, I mixed up some 3M resin and laid to layers of 8 oz fiberglass cloth to the flange on the aft half.

The fiberglass resin is dry and the cloth hanging over the edge is rough cut. A few minutes with some sandpaper and it will be a nice even flange again.

The two layers of cloth were all it needed. Now the two halves are flush. Easy!

Flange is sanded.
On this and the next photo, you can see the huge gap in these Sam James wheel pants between the front and aft half.
To fill this, I will mix microballons, cab-o-sil, and cotton flock in with the resin. This mixture gets poured into the gap and then sanded when dried.

The first step though is to put some clear packing tape here I don't want the resin to stick.
