I worked all day on the cowl. Some of that time was spent mounting my oil access door. These are the S-10 hinges I ordered from RANS. I glued and riveted an aluminum plate under the hinges as a stiffener. |

You can see the two countersunk rivets used to hold the plate on (along with the DP-460 glue). The other four holes for the hinges will get the same rivets and then they will all be filled. I had to order longer rivets today. If you are wondering why both hinges are mounted together at the bottom, it's because the cowl is curved starting right above the upper hinge. I can't mount the hinges on the curved part of the cowl. |

Door is taped on to line it up with the opening. Then I drilled the holes for the hinges. |

See the 'nutplate' for the quarter turn
wingnut? My original plan was to mount the nutplate so, in this photo,
it would be oriented up and down. But if I did that, then the wingnut,
when the oil door is closed, is turned so it is against the wind (see
next photo).
To fix this I had to turn the nutplate 90 degrees so the wingnut would be parallel to the wind when the door is closed. So again I had to make an aluminum plate to hold the nutplate. |

See the wingnut? This is before I
turned the nutplate. All of the rivets in the cowl and the oil door will
be flush and filled with 'filler' so none will be visible. Everything is
done, I just have to put the remaining rivets in once they arrive from
A/C Spruce.
